Privacy Policy — Vaani AI
Vaani AI is developed by Lakvanta Technologies. Vaani is an AI conversation partner, so unlike a fully offline tool, some of what you write or say has to leave your device to get a reply. This policy sets out exactly what is sent, where it goes, and what never leaves your phone.
1. Overview
Vaani helps you practise spoken and written English with an AI partner. There is no account and no sign-up. Your progress stays on your device. To generate a reply, the text of your conversation is sent to our AI provider and the answer is sent back.
2. What Is Sent Off Your Device
- Conversation text. What you type in a chat, and the transcript of what you say on a voice call, is sent to Anthropic's Claude API so it can reply in character.
- Text you submit for correction. Anything you paste into Grammar Correction is sent the same way.
- Your first name and self-declared level. These are included in the instructions given to the model so it can address you and match your level. Nothing else from your profile is sent.
This data is used to produce your reply. It is not used to build an advertising profile of you, and we do not sell it. Anthropic's handling of API data is governed by their own privacy policy and commercial terms.
3. Microphone & Speech Recognition
Voice calls and the pronunciation coach need your microphone. Audio is captured only while you are actively recording, and is converted to text using Apple's Speech framework. Depending on your device and language settings, Apple may perform that transcription on-device or on Apple's servers, under Apple's privacy policy.
Vaani does not record, store or upload audio files. Only the resulting text transcript is used, and for the pronunciation coach that transcript is compared against the target sentence on your device and then discarded.
4. What Stays On Your Device
- Your name, level, learning goals and daily target
- Your XP, daily streak and which chapters you have finished
- Your activity history — which topics, lessons, quizzes and calls you completed
- Your API key, if you supply one, which is held in the iOS keychain
This information is stored in the app's own storage on your device. Lakvanta Technologies has no access to it, and it is never uploaded. Deleting the app removes all of it.
5. No Advertising or Tracking
Vaani contains no advertising networks, no third-party analytics and no tracking SDKs. The only network requests the app makes are the AI requests described in section 2.
6. Diagnostics
If you have enabled sharing analytics with developers in your iOS settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports. These contain no personal data and none of your conversations.
7. Third-Party Services
- Anthropic (Claude API) — generates the AI replies, corrections and coaching.
- Apple frameworks — Speech and AVFoundation for listening and speaking, plus standard system frameworks. No other SDKs are bundled.
8. Children's Privacy
Vaani is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Because there is no account, we hold no identifying information about any user.
9. Your Choices
You can clear your progress and history at any time from Settings inside the app. You can revoke microphone and speech permissions in iOS Settings; the typed conversation features continue to work without them. Deleting the app erases everything stored locally.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. Updates will be published on this page.
