Privacy Policy — Bright Mind
1. Overview
Bright Mind is a brain-training app: mini games, short reflection tests, and a record of how you are getting on. It is built so that almost nothing has to leave your phone. Everything you earn — levels, stars, streaks, test results and settings — is written to storage on the device itself. If you create an account, a copy is also saved to your account so that it survives a new phone; without an account nothing leaves the device at all.
The exceptions are listed below, and every one of them is optional: an account, which saves your progress and puts you on the leaderboard; and notifications, if you want reminding.
2. What Stays On Your Device
Held in the app's own storage on your iPhone or iPad. Without an account this is the only place any of it exists:
- Your daily goal, difficulty, and sound, music and haptics settings
- Game levels, best scores, stars and how many times you have played
- Your streak, your daily activity history and your skills radar
- Every test result, including the score and the band it fell into
- The name you type in
Deleting the app removes all of it. So does signing out of an account, or deleting an account, from Settings → Account — both erase everything above and return the app to its first-launch state. There is no separate “reset progress” button, because those two are the reset.
3. Accounts Are Optional
You can use every game and every test without signing in. On first launch the app creates an anonymous account through Firebase Authentication (a Google service) so that your progress has an identifier if you later choose to sign in — it contains no personal details.
If you do choose to sign in, you may use:
- Email and password — your email address and a password you choose
- Google — handled by Google Sign-In; we receive your email address and name
- Apple — handled by Sign in with Apple; if you choose to hide your email, we only ever see Apple's relay address
Firebase Authentication stores the account itself (identifier, email address, display name and sign-in timestamps). Signing in links your existing guest progress to that account rather than replacing it.
You can sign out at any time from Settings → Account. Signing out erases everything the app has stored on the device — levels, stars, streaks, test results, settings and the sign-in tokens held in the device Keychain — and removes your row from the leaderboard. Progress is not backed up to a server, so it cannot be restored afterwards. Deleting your account, from the same screen, does the same and removes the account itself from Firebase Authentication.
3a. Your Progress, If You Have An Account
With an account, your save file — game levels, stars, streaks, daily history and test results — is copied to Cloud Firestore under your own account identifier. Only you can read or write it; the security rules allow nobody else, and it is never shown to other players.
It is there so that signing in on a new phone brings your progress with it, and so that signing out is not the end of it. Two devices are not merged: whichever one saved last is the copy that stands. Deleting your account deletes this file with it.
Playing as a guest uploads nothing. Your subscription status and your notification settings stay on the device and are never part of this copy.
4. The Leaderboard
If you are signed in, your first name and your star count are sent to our database and shown to other players on the leaderboard. That is the only place in Bright Mind where something of yours is visible to anyone else.
Nothing else is shared: not your email address, not your test results, not what you played or when. Guests never appear on the leaderboard at all.
You can leave the leaderboard at any time from Settings → Leaderboard. Turning it off deletes your row rather than hiding it, and you can turn it back on whenever you like.
Names are moderated. A name that is not made of letters, or that matches our blocklist, cannot be saved or published. Every row on the board carries a control to report the name to us or to hide that player from your own board for good. Reported names are reviewed and removed within 24 hours, and an account used to publish an offensive name may be removed.
5. Notifications
The daily reminder is switched on by default; push notifications are off until you turn them on. Either way nothing appears until iOS asks for your permission, which it does after you finish setting the app up — and if you decline, the switch turns itself back off. Both can be turned off at any time in Settings.
- Daily reminder — a local notification scheduled on the device at the time you pick. It never involves a server.
- Push notifications — delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service, used for news about new games and challenges. This requires a device token, which is generated by Apple and held by Firebase so a message can be routed to your device.
Turning either switch off in Settings stops it, and so does turning notifications off for Bright Mind in iOS Settings.
6. No Advertising, No Tracking
Bright Mind carries no advertising, no advertising identifiers and no third-party trackers. Analytics is switched off in the app's Firebase configuration. We do not build a profile of you, and we do not sell or share personal information with anyone for advertising.
7. Permissions We Do Not Ask For
The app does not use the microphone, camera, photo library, contacts, location, calendar or health data. Its sounds and music are generated on the device; no recording ever takes place.
8. Test Results Are Not A Diagnosis
The tests in Bright Mind are reflection exercises. They are not clinical or psychometric assessments and are not used to make any decision about you. Results are stored on your device and shown only to you.
9. Purchases
Every game is free. Bright Mind Pro is an optional subscription that unlocks the tests and their full reports. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never see or store your card or billing details, and we are told only whether a subscription is active.
10. Third-Party Services
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Messaging) — accounts, saved progress, the leaderboard and push delivery. See Google's privacy policy.
- Google Sign-In — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, push notification delivery and, where applicable, App Store purchases.
No other third party receives data from the app.
11. Children's Privacy
Bright Mind is suitable for children and contains no advertising, no chat, no messaging and no photo or video sharing. The only thing one player can show another is the first name on the leaderboard, and names are filtered when they are typed and again before they are published. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children. An account is not required to play; where a child uses the app, we recommend leaving it signed out, which keeps them off the leaderboard entirely. A parent or guardian who believes details were entered by a child may contact us and we will delete them.
12. Data Retention & Deletion
- On-device data — kept until you sign out, delete your account, or delete the app.
- Saved progress — kept for as long as the account exists, and deleted with it.
- Account data — kept for as long as the account exists. Delete it yourself at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account, which removes it from Firebase Authentication along with your leaderboard row and everything stored on the device. You can also email us and we will do it.
- Push token — removed when you turn push off or delete the app.
13. Security
On-device data is protected by the operating system's own app sandbox and device encryption. Account traffic to Firebase is encrypted in transit. No system is perfect, and we do not claim otherwise — which is one more reason the app keeps as little as it does.
14. Your Choices
- Play entirely as a guest; sign in only if you want a backup
- Leave the leaderboard, or never join it, from Settings
- Turn reminders and push off, individually, at any time
- Report or hide any name you see on the leaderboard
- Erase everything by signing out, deleting your account, or deleting the app
15. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it, and material changes will be noted in the app.
